About Glacier Tours in Iceland

A Glacier Hiking Tour takes you onto one of the many ice-caps found throughout Iceland. Almost all of the country’s glaciers can be explored in this way, at least during the summer. The most common tours, however, will take you to the glaciers Solheimajokull and Svinafellsjokull the year-round—both are located on the South Coast.

Yes, the term glacier is used to describe a mountain where the ice and snow never melts—if the ice melted away during a specific season, it wouldn’t be considered a glacier.

Solheimajokull is closer to Reykjavik and a glacier hike can be done there on a day tour. Skaftafellsjokull is an outlet of Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier, and is much further away from Reykjavik, so a glacier hike there cannot be done on a day tour from Reykjavik.
