Hop on board for some of the best whale watching in the world. While setting out to sea in the winter months of Iceland may seem daunting, the reward of seeing the incredible marine mammals that frequent our waters is well-worth the trip.

Faxaflói bay, just off the coast of Reykjavík, is home to many species of cetacean. The most common species in the winter months is the White-beaked dolphin which often forms pods of over thirty individuals, the Harbour porpoise as well as the occasional Minke and Humpback whale.

One can never know what they will see on a winter whale watching adventure, which is all part of the fun. Outside of these four species, it is not unheard of to see rare creatures (for our area) such as Orcas Long-finned Pilot whales, Fin- or Sei whales.

Winter whale watching also opens up the opportunity to see some of the many seabirds that call Iceland home, including fulmars, guillemots, gannets, cormorants and eider ducks.

Of course, the unpredictable winter weather of Iceland can raise a few challenges when it comes to whale watching. Occasionally, tours will be cancelled if the weather is too rough, and other times the departure point will be moved to another harbour. This means that the tour can last anywhere from 3-5 hrs. total, with transfers to and from our other locations. Normally we spend no longer than 3 hrs. at sea.

When the tours do set out, however, riding the choppy waves can be quite an exhilarating experience, and the sight of the winter sun against the snow-capped peaks surrounding the bay is simply stunning.

Those who suffer from sea-sickness need not fear, as tablets are available in our ticket office, free of charge. Please ask for them sooner rather than later as they take some time to work.

Should you not see any whales or dolphins on the trip we will offer you complimentary tickets to try again on a future tour (within 2 years). If your tour is cancelled however due to unfavourable weather, we will offer you to come another day or get a full refund for the tour.

Don't miss this opportunity to see Iceland's most magnificent animals in the freezing waters of winter. Check availability by choosing a date on the calendar.
