A Day in Thorsmork | The Hikers Paradise
An aerial view overlooking Þórsmörk, 'The Hikers Paradise'.
Þórsmörk is known for its range of natural attractions.
Þórsmörk, its name inspired by Thor, the Norse God of Thunder.
Þórsmörk is brimming with gorgeous river valleys and canyons.
Þórsmörk has hiking trails available for the whole family.
Due to difficult terrain, Þórsmörk is only accessible to 4WD.

Join this hiking excursion and hop on a mountain bus to Þórsmörk, the forested valley surrounded by glaciers and named after the Norse God of thunder, Thor. This stunning area should not be missed by travelling hikers or those who want to see Iceland at its best.

You will depart from Reykjavík early in the morning, stopping briefly in four villages on the South Coast to pick up passengers and admire the surrounding landscapes. At Seljalandsfoss waterfall, you'll stop once more to take a walk on a path all the way around the falls, passing a cave behing the cascade.

Then, you'll continue to your destination. To get to Þórsmörk requires a thrilling ride along a highland road, which involves river-crossings and bumpy roads.

As soon as you reach the forested valley, you will find many hiking trails that are very popular amongst the native hikers. Which routes you choose is up to you and hiking maps are available on the camping grounds. The bus will stop at two places: The Basar campground and at the Volcano Huts in Húsadalur.

You will have roughly six hours in Þórsmörk to explore on your own, so it is recommended that you bring a lunch pack with you; there are few better places in the world for a picnic, especially in the shadows of the mighty ice caps Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.

By the time that your hikes are complete, you will be left in no doubt at all as to why this area is named after the most renowned God of the Vikings. Following your exploration, you will take the scenic drive back to Reykjavík City.

Immerse yourself in one of Iceland's most stunning and fascinating areas, on the cusp of the Central Highlands. Check availability by choosing a date.
