Daily itinerary

Day 1 - The Golden Circle

Come along on a 3-day winter adventure and watch the geyser Strokkur erupt.

Your knowledgeable and friendly driver/guide will pick you up from your accommodations in Reykjavík in the morning. Your first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Viking Parliament and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you will get a good view of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, an area where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart.

Next up, you go on a short drive to the Geysir geothermal area, home to countless hot springs. There, you will witness the mighty Strokkur geyser spew boiling hot water up to 20 meters in the air every 5-10 minutes.

After another short ride, you arrive at the famous Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls. The thunderous gush of water cascades down about 32 meters, in two giant steps, into a deep gorge.

Afterwards, you are driven through the farmlands of the South, to a country hotel that sits in the rural Fljótshlíð area. The hotel is located far away from any light source, making it the perfect spot for viewing the Northern Lights before you retire to your room.

Day 2 - The Highlands

Unwind in a warm river in the Icelandic Highlands.

Today, you will visit some of Iceland's most beautiful scenery, the Landmannalaugar region which lies in the realm of the glacier Torfajökull in the south Icelandic Highlands.

You'll head out in the morning, as you make your way through Þjórsárdalur valley, you will learn about Stöng, an archaeological site with a farm that was covered in volcanic ashes from the Hekla volcano in 1104.

You will make a stop at the Ljótipollur lake, which name translates to 'Ugly Pond'. However, this crater lake, created during an enormous eruption in 1470, is far from ugly. It has high, red edges and beautiful aquamarine water fills the crater.

Once in Landmannalaugar, the third largest geothermal area in the world, you will have the opportunity to soak in a hot river and unwind at this otherworldly region before you head back through the snow-covered lava fields.

Don’t forget to keep a lookout for the Northern Lights. You will stay in the same hotel as the night before.

Day 3 - South Coast - Glacier Walk & Secret Ice Cave

The Northern Lights over the South Coast's Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

You'll head out in the morning to visit Sólheimajökull, a glacier tongue of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, the fourth largest ice cap in Iceland. Here, a glacier guide will equip you with crampons, a harness, and an ice axe to get you ready for a fun walk on the glacier.

On top of Sólheimajökull, you will discover a frosty wonderland of strange ice sculptures, high ridges and deep, blue crevasses.

From Sólheimajökull, you will be driven to Vík, a charming little town known for its legendary black sand beach, Reynisfjara. You'll be given some time to explore the black sands and the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stack which rise out of the Atlantic like ruins of an ancient castle.

From Vík, you will drive to the Secret Ice Cave in Mýrdalsjökull glacier. On the way to the cave, your driver will tell you about the infamous volcano Katla which sits under the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap.

You will get to examine the beautiful ice cave, where you'll see ribbons of black ash inside the ice, the remnants of past eruptions. After exploring the cave, you will make your way back to Reykjavík, but not before visiting the marvellous waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.
