Witness the beautiful Langjökull glacier in two entirely different ways, with this snowmobiling and ice tunnel tour. This excursion should appeal to anyone who wants to connect with Iceland’s glaciers and is looking for some exhilaration during their holiday.

This tour begins at the snowmobiling base camp; it is possible to get transferred there from Húsafell in the summer. Here, you will meet your snowmobile guides, who will introduce you to your equipment and vehicle, and go over safety.

You must have a valid driver’s license to drive yourself, but anyone over six years old is welcome to join as a passenger as each vehicle seats two people.

As soon as you are ready, you will shoot off and blast across the ancient ice. The thrill of the experience is only matched by the beauty of your surroundings; the expanse of white snow is mesmerising, and the views of the Highlands around the glacier are spectacular.

You will ride your snowmobile right up to the tunnels into Langjökull glacier. These tunnels are quite different to ice caves; they are formed by hand, rather than by nature, at the top of the glacier, rather than the bottom. They are also accessible all year long and not compromised by weather such as heavy rain.

Nowhere else in the world can you walk into an ice cap like this; such other experiences around the world are solely for scientists. You will spend approximately an hour strolling through the beautiful tunnels, admiring the vivid blue ice. Your guides will tell you all about the glaciers as you do and show you rooms such as the chapel carved within.

Once you have enjoyed the tunnels, you will return to your snowmobile and shoot back down the glacier to the base camp. Once there, the tour is complete and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.

Explore the ancient ice of Langjökull glacier, with a thrilling snowmobile and an exploration of the ice tunnels. Check availability by choosing a date.
