Join this three-day tour to witness many incredible locations in Iceland, including the little known Hrísey Island. This Super Jeep excursion is perfect for those who love adventure and sightseeing; seeking a personal, unique experience, with particular appeal to those who love fishing and whale watching.

The tour begins in Reykjavík, where you are picked up in your Super Jeep, a modified and powerful vehicle that promises to let you travel over any terrain and keep your group size small. You will then drive to the North of Iceland, stopping at many awe-inspiring sites along the way, before taking the ferry to Hrísey Island where your dinner and accommodation awaits.

On the boat journey over there, you have an excellent chance of seeing whales and dolphins in the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Many species of whale reside here, including Fin whales and White-beaked dolphins.

On day two, you will explore the picturesque island further. Hrísey is naturally beautiful, culturally isolated, and little travelled, providing you with a unique and rewarding experience. In the afternoon, those who love fishing can take a sea angling tour, while those not interested can return to North Iceland to tour the amazing sites of Lake Mývatn and Goðafoss Waterfall.

On your third day, you will return to Reykjavík via the Highlands, where you'll have an opportunity to bathe in the natural hot springs at Hveravellir. You also will have the opportunity to see two of Iceland's most famous sites, Gullfoss and Geysir, belonging to the famed Golden Circle sightseeing route.

Book now to save your seat on this three-day tour of Iceland's major sites, to witness the village life on Hrísey Island and enjoy the bounties of the ocean. Check availability by choosing a date.

Daily itinerary

Day 1 - Go North

A Super Jeep en route to Hrísey Island via Iceland's northern country roads.

You'll be picked up from Reykjavík on day one, and take the scenic journey to North Iceland. The Super Jeep will stop four times on your way to the island of Hrísey, the first time by a waterfall only an hour and a half away from the city.

The next stop is at Hvítserkur cliff out in the sea, called "White Shirt" because of the colour of guano left there by seabirds. Some say that this formation resembles an elephant drinking, some compare it to a dinosaur, and some remain true to the folk stories and claim it is a troll.

After that, you will stop at a local farm for a light lunch in Skagafjörður, before heading to Siglufjöður and visit the Herring Era Museum. This is the only museum in Iceland that has won international awards.

After that stop, you will head to Árskógssandur and take the ferry to Hrísey Island. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the freshly caught dinner awaiting you before turning in for the night.

Day 2 - Hrísey Island

Take a tractor ride on Hrísey Island and get to know the friendly locals.

After a lovely breakfast, you will take a tractor ride to the north of Hrísey Island to see the residential lighthouse and take a short hike to the northernmost point of the landmass. After taking in the spectacular landscapes, you will go fishing for dinner that evening, and hope, on the boat, to catch sight of some mighty whales.

If you're not interested in fishing, then the other option is to take the ferry back to the mainland to go see the most famed North Iceland attractions, being the waterfall Goðafoss, Mývatn Lake, and the town of Akureyri, called the 'northern capital of Iceland'.

Then, you return to Hrísey in the evening to spend another serene night.

Day 3 - See the Highlands

On this three day North Iceland tour to Hrísey Island, you'll see the geyser Strokkur as you return.

On the final day of the tour, you'll take the ferry back from the island of Hrísey to return to Reykjavík City.

Your route, however, will be very different, taking you through the magnificent Highlands. You'll make a stop at Hveravellir, a reserve between two glaciers, with smoky fumaroles and hot springs, some of which you will be able to bathe in. You'll also see Hvítárvatn, a magnificent Highland lake.

Finally, you'll make two stops at two of the most famous stops of South Iceland, Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area. You'll eventually be back in Reykjavík in time to enjoy a late dinner or a few drinks.
