Take the time to experience a landscape that has been moved and changed by volcanic activity and join this hiking tour. This excursion is the perfect way to discover the beautiful Icelandic nature to be found off the beaten path while being guided by a local who is deeply familiar with the area.

During the tour, you will hike through one of the most unique landscapes on the planet and experience a world that was born of fire and ice while taking in the spectacular scenery.

You will meet your guide at a farmhouse lodge. You will then take a short drive (approximately 15 minutes) to a cabin. The cabin is situated in a reforestation area at the foot of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and one of the most powerful volcanoes in Iceland, Katla.

The natural surroundings have been shaped by the glacier over centuries. As you hike, you will see deep canyons filled with lush vegetation. Your guide will also take you past glacial rivers and terrain that was formed by volcanic eruptions.

After the 2-3 hour hike, you will return to the comfortable cabin, you will have the option to enjoy a light supper, prepared with local ingredients,  as you enjoy the view over across the land towards the South Coast.

You will also meet an incredibly knowledgeable local man. He grew up on one of the farms in Mýrdalur and his family have lived there for generations. He will tell you stories of the land and its people. People who have lived at the foot of a mighty volcano for generations. Their everyday lives intertwined with geothermal activity.

The hike is presented in English, but the local storyteller can speak Danish/Norwegian/Swedish and some Spanish and German.
