Visit the most remote, untouched part of Iceland with this day tour to the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. This excursion should not be missed by travellers to the Westfjords eager to seek beautiful landscapes and a wealth of flora and fauna.

The tour begins in the capital of the Westfjords, Ísafjörður, where you will meet your guides and group. Once you have all made your introductions, you’ll walk down to the harbour where a speedboat is waiting for you. You’ll board, then set off through the spectacular fjords of this region, across stunning seas in the shadow of ancient mountains.

On this journey, you may start seeing some of the bountiful wildlife that defines this area. Seals live all throughout the Westfjords, there are many species of bird, and you might even spot a whale or dolphin.

You’ll disembark once you reach one of the fjords of Hornstrandir. This Nature Reserve was all but abandoned in the last century, and now nature has almost entirely taken over. The region is defined by its arctic flora, is dramatic sea-cliffs and its Arctic Foxes. They are protected here, and have very little fear of people, making it an absolute dream destination for wildlife photographers.

You will walk along old trails, over rolling hills and through verdant nature, as you explore the reserve. You will stop somewhere along the way for lunch, which you will bring with you. While conditions will dictate as to where you have this, the intention is to do so at a vantage point over the spectacular oceans.

After an afternoon of more exploring, you’ll reach an old farmhouse, where a delicious Icelandic dinner will be prepared for you.

Once you are satisfied with both your meal and your incredible day, you’ll return to the speedboat for the journey back to Ísafjörður.
