Þingvellir, wrapped in its autumn colours.
Strokkur the geyser erupting against a clear blue sky.
The highlight of the Hvíta river is without a doubt Gullfoss waterfall.
All geysers around the world have been named after Iceland's Geysir, which is currently in a period of inactivity.
The wind catches the spray of Strokkur, so keep back to avoid getting soaked.
This tour is not only catered for English speakers!

Join this afternoon of sightseeing, around the world-famous Golden Circle. This is a must-see for all travellers to Iceland and only takes seven-and-a-half hours to complete.

In the morning, you will be picked up from your Reykjavík accommodation or meet up with your guide at Reykjavík Terminal. The bus you will travel on has wifi, USB sockets, a tablet per guest, and an audio guide which can provide commentary in 10 different languages. You will also have an expert guide on board who can answer any queries.

The first stop of the Golden Circle is Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir means 'fields of Parliament', as this is where early Icelanders, in 930 AD, gathered to establish what would later become the world's longest-running, ongoing parliament. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for this reason.

Þingvellir is also renowned for its beauty, with its vast lake, many streams, and forested areas. The geology of the area is also fascinating; the park sits directly in the continental rift valley that runs all the way through Iceland. Nowhere else in the world can you see the edges of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates so clearly.

The second stop on the Golden Circle is the Haukadalur valley. This is home to the world-famous Geysir, which gave all other geysers their name. While this feature is almost completely inactive these days, its neighbour, Strokkur, still erupts to impressive heights every five to ten minutes.

The Geysir Geothermal Area is also known for its many hot springs, mud pools, fumaroles, and its colourful, mineral-rich earth.

The third and final stop of the Circle is Gullfoss waterfall. Also called 'the Golden Waterfall', this incredible landmark plunges into an ancient valley in two tiers. If the ground is not too icy, it is possible to approach Gullfoss right where the water starts to fall, for some mesmerising views. There are also platforms above and opposite it, allowing for some great photos.

With these three sites explored and enjoyed, it is time to shoot back to Reykjavík. All in all, this tour only lasts approximately seven and a half hours, making it a perfect choice if you have plans for your morning and evening, or else if you are planning a lie-in or early night.

Jump aboard, for this excellent afternoon seeing Iceland's most famous sites. Check availability by choosing a date.
