Daily itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival to Reykjavík

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

On your first day, you will land at the International Airport in Keflavík, and make your way over to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. You can spend your time enjoying the culture of the city, or else exploring the surrounding area. You could visit the Reykjanes Peninsula, renowned for its stark, volcanic landscapes and geothermal areas, or even use the opportunity to go to the world-famous Blue Lagoon Spa.

Spend the night in Reykjavík.

Day 2 - The Snæfellsnes Peninsular

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

On day two, you will visit the incredible Snæfellnes Peninsula. Often called ‘Iceland in Miniature’ due to the wealth of scenery spread across the 90-kilometre stretch, today will be packed with sightseeing adventures.

You will visit the crown-jewel of the peninsula, Snæfellsjökull glacier. This enormous, dormant volcano is best known as the setting for the Jules Verne novel ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’. You will also see the black-sand beach Djúpalónssandur; the basalt sea-stacks known as Lóndrangar; the charming villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar; and the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Kirkjufell.

You will return to the capital for the night.

Day 3 - The South Coast, part 1

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

On your third day, you will explore the far end of the South Coast. You will start the day by driving to Dyrhólaey lighthouse and arch, where you will receive spectacular views of southern Iceland. You will have a better look at Reynisfjara beach, considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful non-tropical stretches of coast, before lunching in the charming town of Vík.

From here, you will continue east, until you reach Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Many consider this to be the most beautiful spot in Iceland, and as soon as you see the great pool filled with serene icebergs, you will be left in little wonder as to why. While here, you will have a chance to wander the Diamond Beach, where these icebergs run ashore after reaching the ocean.

You will spend the night in the south-east of Iceland.

Day 4 - The South Coast, part 2

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

On your fourth day, you will head back to Reykjavík along the South Coast, stopping at all the points you missed en route. The first of these will be the glacier Sólheimajökull, where you will stop for a glacier hike. All the safety equipment will be provided, and your experienced guide will show you the otherworldly landscapes from atop an ice cap.

After enjoying this excursion, you will continue west to see three of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls. The first of these is the largest; Skógafoss falls from a height of over 60 metres and is up to 20 metres wide at its heaviest flow. A little further along is Seljalandsfoss, where it is possible to walk all the way around for some incredible views. The final falls is lesser-known; Gljúfrabúi is hidden near Seljalandsfoss in a little ravine and is marvellous to behold once you manage to find it.

You will spend your fourth night back in Reykjavík.

Day 5 - Kulusuk, Greenland

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

On your fifth day, you will rise early, and head to Reykjavík’s Domestic Airport for your trip to Greenland. You will land in Kulusuk after a short flight and have several hours to explore the wonderful settlement.

Nestled in a fjord surrounded by saw-toothed mountains, the beauty of the area is as notable as the culture. Other than just admiring the landscapes, you will have an opportunity to see the museum, the town’s church, and the local architecture. It is also often possible to see a native Inuit drum dance while you are here.

You will return to the airport after several hours exploring, to fly back to Iceland’s capital where you will spend the night.

Day 6 - Golden Circle and final adventure

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

Your final full day in Iceland will be spent seeing its three most well-known destinations: the three sites of the Golden Circle. The first of these is Þingvellir National Park. It was here that Icelanders formed an institution that would later be known as the original site of the world’s longest-running, ongoing democracy, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The geology of the park is also fascinating, as it is located directly between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Following Þingvellir, you will head to the Haukadalur Valley. This region is home to hot springs, fumaroles, and two geysers. The first, Geysir (which gave all others their name), is largely inactive, but Strokkur, which is right nearby, erupts every ten minutes or so to impressive heights. Less than ten minutes down the road, you will find the final site of the Golden Circle, the mighty and awe-inspiring waterfall Gullfoss.

You will have the choice of three adventures to add on to your final day. You could opt for a snorkelling tour in Þingvellir National Park; a snowmobiling trip on Langjökull glacier; or a riding tour on one of Iceland’s beautiful native horses.

You will return to the capital for your final night.

Day 7 - Return to Keflavík

7 Day Summer Package | Iceland in Depth with a Greenland Day Tour

Your final day will take you back to Keflavík for your flight home. If you have time, you can do some last minute shopping in Reykjavík, or perhaps visit the Blue Lagoon Spa if you didn’t on your first day.
