Take one of Iceland’s most beloved and popular hiking trails up Mount Esjan with this wonderful guided tour, complete with a trip to a geothermal pool and a two-course dinner at the end.

This trip is perfect for those who want to get right into Icelandic nature without spending hours travelling in a car or bus, and those looking for that little something extra special.

The tour begins when you are picked up from Reykjavík and driven thirty minutes along a scenic route, north to the base of the trail up Mount Esjan. Immediately, you will see why this route is so popular among hikers: as soon as you set out, you will encounter fields of wildflowers, thickets of birch, and sparkling brooks.

Because of the many streams running down the mountain’s slopes, you need only bring an empty bottle with you; the water is clean and perfectly drinkable, like much of the running water throughout Iceland.

The walk to the highest point of your hike and back will take approximately one and a half hours. The point you will turn at is a massive boulder named ‘Steinn’ (which translates directly from ‘stone’), and if the weather is clear from here, you will be able to enjoy some fantastic views.

The capital city of Reykjavík will gleam across Faxaflói Bay, and behind that, the Blue Mountains are gathered. In particularly good weather, you’ll also be able to see the length of the Reykjanes Peninsula, with its rows of cone-shaped volcanoes.

After your descent, the best way to reward yourself is to bathe in some hot springs, which can be found at the pool Lágafellslaug nearby. Your guides will take you here to let you melt your troubles away in geothermally heated waters, before whisking you back to a premium restaurant in Reykjavík for a two-course dinner, which will include beer-tasting.

Both the entry to the pools and the meals are included in the ticket price.

Don’t miss this unique and rewarding opportunity to enjoy the nature, pools and cuisine of Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.
