Hunt for the Northern Lights without missing a second of adventure by booking this small group winter buggy tour conducted at night. This excursion should appeal to thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike, particularly those seeking one of nature’s greatest phenomena.

This tour begins in the evening when you reach the buggy base camp near the town of Hella in south Iceland. Your guides will provide you will all your safety equipment and a quick lesson on how to drive your buggy; though only qualified drivers (with their license) can operate their own vehicle, those who cannot drive and children from seven and up can enjoy from the passenger seat.

Once you are all ready and boarded, your guide will lead you out into the darkening Icelandic nature. You have no set agenda as to where you are heading; you’ll instead go to the places with the least cloud cover and light pollution for your best chance at seeing the auroras. This could be a stunning black-sand-beach, the nearby hills, the banks of a surging river, or rolling countryside.

Regardless of where the road takes you, driving your buggy will no doubt be a thrill, particularly with the dark landscapes around you and the bumpy, gravel track beneath your wheels. Even if the Northern Lights are yet to descend, you’ll stop for photo opportunities at some beautiful surrounding sites.

When the auroras appear, words can hardly describe the emotion they evoke. A vivid spectrum of colour, the lights swirl and dance across the sky as if conducted by an ethereal force, leaving little wonder as to why so many believed this phenomenon to be the work of the gods.

The Northern Lights are, of course, fickle and may not appear; this tour will only thus depart if they are expected. Even if they do not appear, or only appear very faintly, it remains a spectacular experience to take a buggy ride beneath a canopy of stars in Iceland.

Don’t miss your chance to see the Northern Lights from the seat of a buggy. Check availability by choosing a date.
